I’m doing a walk on the top of the highest building on the Gold Coast in Australia. I’m attached to the building by a strap and harness that can lift 2.5 tonnes; I know this because I read the label on the harness. My guide now says go to the edge hold onto the strap and lean back outward from the building. I am immediately assaulted by fear, s..t what happens if I fall? Logically this is impossible, but I have fallen into the trap of fear. Playing out what could happen if I fall. I reassess and think I can’t fall, and if I lean out, I’ll get a great buzz. I do so, and boy it was worth it; the view was incredible, and I experienced something new.
Many of my clients at Transformations Coaching and Hypnotherapy allow themselves to be dictated to by fear when they come to see me quit smoking. I’ve tried everything; what if I fail? If you are having these fears, then why not tweak those fears? What if you were to say this is going to work? I’ve never tried this, so why wouldn’t it work? If you have never tried hypnosis and NLP to quit smoking cigarettes, how do you know it might not work? What you are doing is taking your past experiences and letting them dictate to you. It’s a bit like driving a Hyundai Getz and then saying it’s the same as driving a Ferrari. It’s not the same!
It’s important to address your fears of failure when you come to quit smoking cigarettes in 60 minutes. Firstly ask yourself the question; do you want to quit? When you are sure, then start thinking that all you have done in the past has been a journey to lead you up to this moment. The moment and time when you can stop smoking cigarettes. Get this thinking right, and nothing will stop you from quitting smoking.
