Out of Control

Quite often when I am helping a person to quit smoking I ask them if they think that their habit is controlling them. It always amazes when they say that it doesn’t.

It is often a person who is a heavy smoker and been doing it for a long time that says their smoking habit is not controlling them. When they say this I usually follow up with some questions on their smoking and lifestyle, what usually comes out is:

They check often that they have their cigarettes and lighter.
They plan their day around cigarettes and smoking.
They will go to great lengths […]

Perceptions to Quit Smoking

As they say perceptions are reality and that is why it is really good not to have perceptions of hypnosis but in particular hypnotic trance.

When someone has a perception of trance it does two things: it takes away from your concentration and if the trance is not like you imagined you think that you have not gone into trance. When this happens you then begin to question what has happened.

I had a customer at Quit Smoking the other day who did not think that she had gone into trance. When I asked her about this she told me that she […]

He Made Me Do It

I had a client that told me that her brother made her smoke cigarettes. She said that he was smoking and insisted that she smoke as well.

The question is, did he really make her smoke cigarettes? For me the answer is no. we all have choices and I would suggest that it was her choice to smoke. She could have just as easily chosen not to smoke!

It seems to me that these days’ people do not want to accept the consequences of their choices. It’s much easier to blame someone else. It’s not my fault, its somebodies fault seems […]

Quit Smoking = Less Stress

Many people equate smoking to stress release. They smoke in a stressful situation to cope with the stress. The question is does smoking help with stress release?

The answer is no and yes! What? I hear you say, how can that be so?

When you smoke the nicotine from your cigarette causes your blood vessels to constrict very fast. This causes two things:

Your blood circulation is restricted.
Your blood pressure shoots up.

It is estimated that when you smoke a cigarette your peripheral blood circulation is reduced by 60%. Since the cells in your body rely on the blood supply to get their nutrients […]

What is hypnosis?

I frequently have clients that come to me to quit smoking and say that they had gone for hypnosis in the past and they had not been hypnotised.

My question is what is being hypnotised? We all go into hypnosis in different ways and not always in the same way.

When you come for hypnosis to help stop smoking cigarettes be very careful not to have a pre-conceived idea of what a hypnotic trance is like. I have people say, “I heard every word you said”. My answer is I hope so otherwise I wasted my breath talking to you.

The best frame […]

The ideal quit smoking client

The other day I had a lady phone me enquiring about quitting smoking and it drove home the importance of having the ideal client for the process of stop smoking cigarettes to work.

She started off by asking me to justify the price of the process and that she could go down the road and get it done cheaper. She also said that smoking was an addiction, this is contrary to all research which shows that smoking cigarettes is a habit.

The lady continued by saying that I could not get her to quit smoking in one session and that it would […]

Mindset to Quit Smoking

One of the biggest things to succeeding in quitting smoking cigarettes is the one of that this will work. It’s no good in deciding to stop smoking and to use words like hope and try.
Hoping or trying to quit smoking will not put help you to quit. Another common thought is, what if it fails? I’ve tried in the past and it’s not worked. You do not have to be a victim of your past!! What has happened in the past does not have to define what is going to happen in the future.
When you decide to stop smoking use […]

I Can’t Quit!

Just about everybody that smokes tries to quit smoking at one time or another. They quit for a time and then go back to smoking. Why is this?

When you stop smoking cigarettes you leave a gap in the subconscious mind. The mind does not like gaps and will try to fill that gap, usually by getting you to go back to smoking. That’s what the cravings are all about.

In most cases people resort to hypnotherapy to quit smoking cigarettes after they have exhausted every other avenue. This is a shame as hypnosis is probably the most successful way to stop […]

Dream to Succeed

Many of us dream(visualise) of what sort of holidays, house, life we want but very few of us dream of how it is going to be when we quit smoking cigarettes.

Sure we may dream after quitting but how many of us dream before we decide to stop smoking. We get what we think about. Think about succeeding at quitting smoking and it will happen, think about not succeeding and it will happen.

What I am getting at is that if you want to increase your chances of quitting smoking then start thinking of yourself as a non- smoker before even attempting […]
